On 24 October 2007, former Soviet President, Mikhail Gorbachev spoke before an audience of 600 people at the Falconer Hotel, Copenhagen. COPENMIND acted as a sponsor to this event.
The former President of the USSR is historically famous for his contribution to the end of the Cold War. However, in recent years, Mr. Gorbachev is known for his commitment to environmental protection as the founder of the environmental organisation Green Cross International (CGI). Accordingly, he continuously works to focus the public eye upon growing environmental issues, such as climate changes and poverty resulting from rapid globalisation, and is pressing for sustainable development dealing with a sense of global and shared responsibility in humanity’s relationship with nature.
During his speech to Danish business leaders and diplomatic representatives, Mr. Gorbachev addressed exactly these issues and put special emphasis on how universities as well as businesses could act as a model for the rest of society on these matters.
When confronted with the COPENMIND concept, Mr. Gorbachev acknowledged the importance of such global event and how it presents a unique method for creating value in relation to innovation at a global level. He also gave his full support to the 2008 event that focuses on the topic of cleantech and how this can tackle important issues concerning environmental protection.
