On 3 – 4 December 2007, COPENMIND took part in the special conference in Lisbon about Responsible Partnering, a concept developed in cooperation between EUA, ProTon Europe, EARTO* and EIRMA* to promote effective partnering between industries and universities.
Responsibility Partnering deals with the tendency that many companies today recognise that universities and public research organisations play key roles in their own innovation process. However, one of the principal barriers to the exploitation of research results has largely been the difficulty of aligning the interests of universities and industries, especially when creating long-term partnerships. The Responsible Partnering initiative aims to achieve more effective collaborative research and knowledge transfer among enterprises, universities and public research organisations. It proposes a voluntary code of conduct based on the principles of a maximum beneficial and responsible use of public research that encompasses a series of guidelines to be used when developing research collaborations. In this way, Responsible Partnering should be the basis of collaborations and partnerships across Europe and across different industries; partnerships that are founded on professionalism and mutual understanding which in turn can enhance the quality of Europe’s knowledge economy.
COPENMIND supports the idea of Responsible Partnering and responds to it by creating a platform which enables universities and companies on a global scale to network, exchange technologies and eventually to partner in a responsible manner. At the Responsibility Partnering conference, COPENMIND’s concept director, Anders Holst, presented COPENMIND as an opportunity to identify good partnering and mutual interests and to enable new partnerships. COPENMIND thus pointed out its crucial position and its attention paid to the role of identifying good partners.
